How We Trace the Story
An energetic guide is only useful if it is honest about where its facts come from.
Who we are
Roversaga Disco Sprout is a small independent project run by Roversaga Disco Sprout Ltd. We are writers and record collectors who love dance music and want its history told with care. We are not affiliated with any artist, label, estate or venue named on this site, and we do not accept payment for coverage.
How we choose sources
We start with published histories by researchers who interviewed participants and checked records, especially Tim Lawrence, Alice Echols, Peter Shapiro, and Bill Brewster with Frank Broughton. We compare their accounts with record release information and contemporary press. When sources disagree, we give a range or say so plainly.

Credit the communities
Disco was built largely by Black, Latino and LGBTQ+ people. We name them rather than letting later crossover stars stand in for the whole movement.
History, not nostalgia
We separate what is documented from what is remembered or mythologized, and we flag approximate dates with “c.”
Labelled images
Our photographs are modern and illustrative. We never present them as archival images of named venues or people.
No unlicensed audio
We describe sounds and suggest recordings instead of hosting music we do not have rights to.
